GEORGE

AND HIS GUITARS

George and I have been partners since 2021, meeting my chance at a house party. When I first met George he barely had any personal possessions as they were scattered around the south of England at different family members' houses, and even as far as Australia. This is because he has moved around often which required travelling light. However, it wasn’t until we moved to Southampton together that he started to retrieve his belongings back - in which I discovered that his personal possessions had a hold over him in a completely different way to Millie and Jack’s objects. While theirs represented routine and safety, George and his guitars held a sense of melancholy and symbolic value. Of course, they can be used… However, the intimate relationship between him and his guitar is one of frustration, love, success and failure. I often watch him play, and it feels less of a tool to serve a purpose, and more of a collaboration between man and item. The guitar has a strong embedded sense of purpose and intent - I can see that George feels that too.
