The Full Story

About

The birth of OWNERSHIP came about after noticing that upon recalling significant events in my life, I seemed to subconsciously pay close attention to the objects that were present in those moments. I am Daisy, a Southampton based painter who uses art as a medium to explore and process my own psyche; this time I have collaborated with 4 individuals who have intimately shared with me their own spaces and identities - telling the story of their belongings.

The Group

Alex is a producer. George is a musician. Millie is a social media executive. Jack is a textiles print designer. In each interview, the participant and I explore which object of theirs has the potential to have agency, and how it intertwines with identity and purpose. I hope that upon reading, listening and viewing OWNERSHIP, you gain an understanding of the importance of each object and their stories.

Vision

Use value vs symbolic value vs production value is a question that is asked frequently in an age of mass production and fast paced consumerism. While OWNERSHIP is not a overarching commentary of this, staying true to a human lead look into the things around us - I urge you to get in touch with me on the contacts page with any further thoughts on how we can encourage a genuine relationship with our things to encourage the longevity of items rather than the quick to dispose attitude of the modern west. Whether this be your own story of things, further discussion or response to OWNERSHIP.
